11月中旬に実施予定の高2GAコースの「パラオフィールドワーク」および12月1日に本校が主催する「環太平洋高校生友好会議2024」の準備のため、1泊3日の日程でパラオ共和国に赴きました。現地ではPCAA（Palau Community Action Agency）コーディネーターのレオナルド・バシリウス氏、パラオ国会のセシリル・エルデベチェル上院議員補佐で環境保護家のバーニー・ジラルマウ氏、パラオ教育省学校管理局長のレイノルド・メコル氏、パラオ保健省グローバルヘルスアドミニストレーターのオメンガー・ウオーリー氏にお会いし、協力をお願いしたほか、私立ミンゼンティ高校、国立パラオ高校を訪問し、アラン・マーボウ校長先生、スマイス・ラダン校長先生に、11月の訪問時の学校交流のお願いを申し上げるとともに、「環太平洋高校生友好会議」に本校が招待する8名のパラオの高校生と面会し、プログラムの趣旨と現時点での事前準備についてお伝えしました。両校長先生からは感謝の言葉をいただきました。この高校生会議は、外務省より「日・パラオ外交関係樹立30周年記念事業」としての認定を受けており、在パラオ日本大使館にも訪問し、小野俊輔次席大使と面会させていただき、本校の教育活動へのご支援・ご協力をあらためてお願い申し上げました。現地は台風一過の余韻の残るお天気でしたが、どの関係者からも温かいお言葉を頂き、無事に予定を終えることができました。
I made a one-night three-day visit to the Republic of Palau to prepare for our “Palau Fieldwork 2024” for the 2nd-year of senior high in the GA course scheduled for mid-November and the “Pan-Pacific High School Leaders Meeting for Sustainable Friendship 2024 (Hi PALM 2024), ” which will be hosted by Takatsuki High School on December 1st. While I was there, I met with Mr. Leonard Gork Basilius, coordinator of PCAA (Palau Community Action Agency), Ms. Bernie Ngiralmau, environmentalist and assistant to Senator Secilil Eldebechel of the Palau National Congress, Mr. Raynold Mechol, director, Bureau of School Operations of the Ministry of Education of Palau, and Mr. Omengkar D. Wally, global health administrator of the Ministry of Health of Palau, to ask for their cooperation.
I also visited Mindszenty High School and National Palau High School, and asked the two principals, Mr. Alan T. Marbou and Mr. Smyth Rdang to receive our visit and to arrange our school exchange programs during our visit to Palau in mid-November. I also met with the eight Palauan high school students whom Takatsuki High School is going to invite to Hi PALM 2024 to explain the purpose of the program and the preparations they are expected to make at this time. Both principals expressed their gratitude. Hi PALM 2024 has been recognized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan as a commemorative event of “the 30th Anniversary Japan-Palau Diplomatic Relations,” and I visited the Japanese Embassy in Palau and met with Deputy Ambassador Shunsuke Ono to ask again for their support to Takatsuki’s educational programs. Although the weather in Palau was a little unstable, as a big tropical cyclone left right before my visit, I received kind words from all the people involved and was able to complete my schedule.
