「グローバルヘルス・シンポジウム」開催

2017年５月30日に４名の著名なグローバルヘルス分野の研究者（ロンドン大学衛生熱帯医学大学院ピーター・ピオット学長、同大学院ハイディー・ラーソン教授、京都大学大学院医学研究科木原正博教授、同研究科木原雅子准教授）をお迎えし、「グローバルヘルスシンポジウム」を開催しました。

最初に1976年にザイールでエボラウイルスを共同発見し、1995年から2008年まで国連合同エイズ計画(UNAIDS)初代事務局長を務められ、世界的にも著名なピーター・ピオット学長から「世界の人々がより健康的な生活を送るために-日本の中高生へのメッセージ」と題する基調講演が行われ、その後、高校２年齋藤惟成君による貧困肥満に関する課題研究の個人発表が続き、４名のゲスト講師、５名の本校生徒、来日中のタイの高校生１名との間で行われた建設的なパネルディスカッションでお開きとなりました。中３から高２までのGAコースの生徒約100名がすべて英語で行われたシンポジウムに熱心に参加しました。

この画期的な企画は、GAコースの教育に評価を頂き学術的に中心的なご支援を下さっている木原正博教授からのお誘いとご協力によって実現できました。４名の先生方はみな大変気さくに本校生に接して下さり、お褒めにあずかりました。ピーター・ピオット先生からは本校生の将来のリーダーシップに大いに期待していますとのエールを頂きました。

TAKATSUKI GLOBAL HEALTH SYMPOSIUM Is Held

May 30th, 2017 Inviting four distinguished researchers of global health, Dr. Peter Piot, Director, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Dr. Heidi Larson, Professor of LSHTM, Dr. Masahiro Kihara, Professor, Graduate School of Medicine, Kyoto University, and Dr. Masako Kihara, Associate Professor of the Graduate School, the school hosted TAKATSUKI GLOBAL HEALTH SYMPOSIUM on May 30th.

It started with the keynote speech titled “For healthier lives of people around the world – A message for Japanese high school students” delivered by a world-famous researcher Dr. Peter Piot, who co-discovered the Ebola virus in Zaire in 1976 and served as the Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and Assistant-Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1995 until 2008. Then an individual presentation by a 2nd-year student of senior high Tadanari Saito on his research project regarding poverty-related obesity followed and the event concluded with a constructive panel discussion among the four researchers, five Takatsuki students and one high school student visiting Takatsuki from Thailand. About 100 students in the GA course from the 3rd-year of junior high and the 1st- and 2nd-years of senior high actively participated in the event conducted only in English.

This super attractive event was able to be realized thanks to the suggestion and cooperation of Professor Kihara, who is an academically key supporter appreciating the education provided by Takatsuki’s GA course. All the four guest speakers were very friendly and gave their generous praise to the students. The students were greatly encouraged by Dr. Piot to show leadership in their future careers.
